Running

I never expected I would start running, let alone enjoy it.

My last experience with running was about 10 years ago, when I ran the 20km of Paris (the equivalent of a half marathon). I hadn’t run for 10 years (since high school essentially), and did it with absolutely zero training. I bought my shoes literally the day before the race. It was hard, and I couldn’t walk for a few days after that, but I was glad I did it. I had a great sense of community and citizenship, and felt it was a nice accomplishment.

Then last year I read “Shoe Dog”, the story of Nike told by it’s founder Phil Knight, and got to discover the culture around running, and the spirit that goes with it.

A few months later, I saw the New York marathon passing by my windows for the 6th time, with a number of friends running it, and for the 6th time I regretted not running it.

During the Christmas break, I realized I really wanted and needed to find a sport to practice on a regular basis, to free my mind and exercise. My go-to sport so far had been roller-skating, but I wasn’t doing a tone of it. I also broke my foot while skate-boarding 3 years ago.

It just occurred to me that if I wanted to commit to a regular sport, it had to require the most minimal setup. And that running was essentially the only sport requiring no setup at all.

Long story short, I just started running on a weekly basis, and signed up for the NYC marathon! It’s on November 3rd, and I’m running with Team for Kids, a non profit helping bring sports and physical activity to kids in the US. If you want to help support their mission through my race, here is my donation page, thank you in advance!
